BTEC grading
A free BTEC grade tracker for units, assignments and criteria
My Register is a free grade tracker that works the way BTEC courses are actually assessed: units, assignments, Pass/Merit/Distinction criteria, resubmissions and capped grades — all tracked per student and shareable as live reports.
Built for BTEC-style assessment
Units and assignments
Structure each class into the units you teach, reorder them to match your scheme of work, and break units into the assignments students actually submit.
Pass, Merit, Distinction
Grade against P, M and D criteria rather than forcing coursework into percentages. Overall unit grades are worked up from the criteria students have achieved.
Resubmissions and capping
Record resubmissions properly: the improved grade is tracked, with capping applied where your course rules require it, and the history kept.
Predicted grades
Keep a current predicted grade per student per unit, so you always have an answer when someone asks how the cohort is looking.
Live grade sharing
Share an individual’s grades or a whole class grade overview with colleges and partners via a read-only link you control.
Teacher attribution
When several tutors teach the same class, grades record who assessed them — useful for internal moderation and standardisation.
Why BTEC grading needs its own tracker
BTEC-style courses do not fit a percentage mark book. Students achieve criteria, not scores; units are built up over months; and a resubmission can change a unit grade long after the first attempt. A generic spreadsheet fights you every step of the way.
My Register models the real structure: classes contain units, units contain assignments, and assignments are graded against criteria. The unit grade falls out of the criteria instead of being typed over.
Handle resubmissions without losing the history
Resubmissions are normal on coursework courses, but they wreck most trackers — the old grade gets overwritten and the story of how the student improved disappears.
In My Register a resubmission adds a new graded attempt while keeping the original, with capping applied where your assessment rules say so. Moderators and colleges can see both the outcome and the journey.
Evidence for colleges and moderators
If you deliver BTEC-style provision for a partner college, grade conversations happen all year. Live share links let the college see current unit grades whenever they need to, without you exporting spreadsheets.
My Register is an independent tool for teachers and tutors — it is not affiliated with or endorsed by Pearson or any awarding body — it simply matches the way coursework qualifications are graded.
Frequently asked questions
Can I grade with Pass, Merit and Distinction instead of percentages?
Yes. Each class can use criteria-based grading (Pass, Merit, Distinction) or percentage/A–C style grading — you choose per class when you set it up.
How are resubmissions handled?
A resubmission is recorded as a new attempt with its own grade. The original attempt is kept, and capping is applied where your course rules require it, so the record shows both the first and improved grade.
Is this an official BTEC product?
No. My Register is an independent, free tool built by teachers. It is not affiliated with Pearson or any awarding organisation — it is simply designed around how unit- and criteria-based courses are assessed.
