A RAG progress tracker for red, amber and green ratings

RAG rating is the fastest honest way to say how a student is doing. My Register is a free RAG progress tracker with a whole-class grid — students down the side, the six half terms across the top — so you can rate, review and evidence progress across the year.

RAG tracking that stays useful all year

  • A whole-class RAG grid

One screen per class: every student, every half term, with red, amber and green dots. The cohort picture is visible in a second.

  • Comment categories

Attach a comment type — praise, concern, safeguarding and your own categories — so the reason behind a rating is recorded with it.

  • Full history

Ratings are never overwritten. A student’s move from red to amber to green across the year stays on record as evidence of progress.

  • Live tracker sharing

Share the half-term tracker as a live read-only link with a college or manager — they always see the current grid, not a stale export.

  • Next to grades and attendance

RAG ratings sit on the same profile as grades, registers and reviews, so a red rating can be explained with the full picture.

  • Collaborator friendly

Tutors who share a class can rate and comment on the same grid, with everyone seeing the same current state.

Why RAG works

Detailed grading matters, but termly review conversations usually start with a simpler question: who is on track, who needs watching, and who needs intervention now? Red, amber and green answer that in a glance.

The danger with informal RAG is that it lives in someone’s head or a whiteboard photo. My Register makes the ratings a permanent, dated record — which is what turns a traffic-light judgement into evidence.

Six half terms, one grid

The tracker is laid out the way the school year runs: six half terms across the top, students down the side. Filling in a round takes minutes, and gaps are obvious.

Because earlier rounds stay on the grid, trajectory is visible: a student sliding green to amber to red across three half terms tells a very different story to three separate red judgements would on their own.

Share the picture, not the password

Colleges and partners often want termly RAG updates. A live tracker link gives them the current grid whenever they look, read-only, limited to that class, and revocable by you at any time.

It replaces the termly spreadsheet email — and it can never be out of date.

Frequently asked questions

Can I see the whole year at once?

Yes. The tracker shows all six half terms across the top with students down the side, so the full-year RAG picture for a class fits on one screen.

Do old ratings get overwritten?

No. Every half term’s rating is kept. You can always look back at how a student’s RAG status changed across the year, which is exactly the trajectory evidence reviews ask for.

Can I share the RAG grid with a college?

Yes. You can create a live, read-only link to the half-term tracker for a class. The recipient sees the current grid whenever they open it, and you can deactivate the link at any time.
