Coursework grade percentage calculator
Add each piece of work, the mark and the total available, and a weighting if some assignments count for more. You get the overall percentage for a student straight away – no sign-up needed.
How weighting works
Leave every weight at 1 and each piece of work counts equally. If a final project is worth twice as much as a short task, give it a weight of 2. The calculator converts each mark to a percentage first, then averages them according to their weights – so assignments out of different totals still compare fairly.
Percentages and criteria grading
Plenty of vocational courses are not marked out of totals at all – they are criteria-based, where a learner meets pass, merit or distinction criteria for each unit. Percentages are useful for internal tracking and conversations with students, but check your own awarding body specification before converting a percentage into a course grade. My Register supports both approaches: percentage marks and criteria-based tracking.
For how this works across a full cohort, see our guide to tracking coursework grades across a year.
